Stability

The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the
promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
Jeremiah 33:14-16
Why did the horses have such a long marriage? They had a “stable” relationship!
We all want stability in our lives. We want it in our marriage, our job, our relationship with our family and friends. When there is not stability in our lives, we can feel disconnected from God. A stable relationship with God is what we all strive for. How is that manifested? It starts with a daily connection with God through prayer, Bible reading, devotion time, and reflection.
In the passage from Jeremiah, God promises that Jerusalem will live in safety. This is a promise of stability at a time when Israel is going through a period of storm and stress. The promise of stability must have been welcomed, but hard to believe.
We can all believe during this Advent season that God truly wants stability in each of our lives. We all have different “destabilizers” in our lives that can be minimized if we turn them over to God.
Gracious God, we look to you to bring stability to our lives. Help us to allow the baby Jesus, born in a stable, to come into our hearts. Amen
